Footloose Youth Edition- Kildare - 7th to 13th July 2024

Residential Musical Theatre Camp for 2024

During our musical theatre programme of Footloose Youth Edition, students work with our leading industry team. A choreographer, musical director, and professional theatre director to create acting, voice, movement, singing and dance skills in a safe space. Through ensemble, individual classes and company rehearsal, participants develop the skills necessary for performing in a Broadway JR musical production to the highest standard in seven days. In addition to day rehearsal, evening entertainment and guest workshops are all included for an action packed day up to hot chocolate at 10pm.

This intensive immersion in musical theatre helps build self esteem, develop new skills and enhance performance. Our students acquire audition technique and these vital life skills complement school back in September for increased confidence while creating amazing memories. For many students, these are the best weeks of the entire year and early booking for this course is highly recommended.

On final day of the summer course, students perform a full show with professional technicians, lighting and sound to a live audience in the Moat Theatre. This experience for teenagers guarantees a magical summer school with memories for life!

Footloose Youth Edition! Behind the scenes..

Residential Musical Theatre Camp for 2024: Suitable for 12 to 18 year olds. (Limited availability)

.Footloose: Youth Edition invites you to cut loose and kick off your Sunday shoes in this electrifying musical that celebrates the joy of dance and the power of breaking free. Follow Ren McCormack as he moves from the big city to a small town where dancing is banned, challenging the conservative rules and inspiring the community to embrace their passion for movement and self-expression. With our directors, crew and stunning scenic projections, our stage transforms from the sleepy town to a vibrant dance floor, enhancing the visual spectacle of this high-energy production. With hit songs like Footloose and Let's Hear It for the Boy, this energetic musical celebrates the triumph of youth, the importance of embracing change, and the beauty of standing up for what you believe in. Get ready to be moved by the infectious spirit of Footloose Youth Edition, a show that will have audiences tapping their toes and dancing in the aisles, leaving them with the empowering message that there's no stopping the rhythm of life!

Footloose first burst onto the silver screen in 1984 and proved to be one of the year’s most successful motion pictures. The soundtrack recording reached #1 on the Billboard charts, and went on to sell over 17 million copies worldwide, generating hits as the title song and “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” (both of which received Academy Award nominations), “Almost Paradise,” “Holding Out For A Hero,” and “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man).” With a screenplay and lyrics by Oscar winner Dean Pitchford, the story focused on young people, much like his previous, and wildly successful, movie musical Fame.

Footloose opened on Broadway on October 22, 1998. The next day, the show broke the box office record for the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it continued to thrill audiences through July 2000. The reaction to the ‘new’ Footloose was immediate and enthusiastic; a tour in the U.K. led to a West End engagement, which in turn triggered excitement throughout Europe and around the globe.

In 2011, Paramount Pictures’ remake of Footloose – with a screenplay by Dean Pitchford and the film’s director Craig Brewer – brought this heart warming story and electrifying music to a whole new generation, so Teenage Stage 24 will be a timely revival!
