What's Involved?

For day rehearsal, singing, drama and dance classes, students are divided into juniors and seniors which ensures they receive the correct level of tuition for their age and ability. In keeping with the ‘arts educational’ experience and our wish to develop independence, teamwork and leadership skills in students, all meals, lessons and activities are taken together. Excursions and evening entertainment are combined allowing students to spend time with new friends in a relaxed manner after an action packed day rehearsal.

Secure Accommodation

Students live in single- gender boarding houses under care of an experienced Centre Manager who acts in loco parentis and is responsible for the development and welfare of each student. All Teenage Stage Summer School staff and trained chaperones are employed directly by us which helps students settle quickly and help them achieve their full potential during their stay.

Creative and Fun

The course is small and friendly, and each location offers a perfect backdrop for an exciting summer. Each day is structured to give a true taste of drama school life. Classes with three professional directors each morning, group and company workshops, rehearsal in afternoons, fun activities,  evening inclusive workshops from guests, quizzes and excursions up to lights out!

Practical Skills

Through practical training, educational trips and an exciting range of extra-curricular activities, students gain valuable skills, make lifelong friends and enjoy unforgettable memories from our courses.

Quality Arts Educational Holiday

The course aims  to introduce teenagers and young adults to the discipline and excitement of a professional week while making new friends so they literally eat, sleep and drink theatre.

Students aged 11 to 19 are welcomed into a happy and supportive family environment where they thrive as they learn to live, rehearse, study and relax both independently and together. Our bespoke courses give teens and young adults measurable results and wonderful life skills with memories to last a lifetime.

Taught by leading professionals, Teenage Stage will provide practical experience in Voice (projection, breathing techniques, dialect etc), Acting and Movement, Musical theatre and dance and may provide a platform for further training in acting, musical theatre or drama.

This intensive summer school course will allow students to develop skills in acting, self confidence, improvisation, listening and taking direction. Ideal for any teenager who has a passion for all things theatre related or simply a wonderful summer school experience.

A limited number of places are available on this course in order to ensure that each student receives the maximum individual attention.

The course curriculum includes training in voice, movement, dialect, acting, ensemble work, Alexander Technique and Stanislavski’s system and will culminate in a live performance of Sweeney Todd to family and friends of the participants and invited members of the general public.

A forward letter from Professor Patrick Lonergan

We at the Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies at NUI Galway are delighted to support this exciting initiative. Teenage Stage Summer Schools will give young people from Ireland and around the world an opportunity to spend an intensive week in the world of musical theatre, working with first-rate teachers and practitioners. Along the way, they will certainly learn a great deal, and will meet new people.

We look forward to contributing to the school in a variety of ways: by advising on the curriculum, by involving our own undergraduate Drama students, by hosting a visit of participants to our campus for a special evening of entertainment – and in other ways too. In doing so, we want to play our part in making Teenage Stage Summer Schools a rigorous, educationally rich and enjoyable immersion in the world of theatre.

"Elena, 13, was the only Italian girl on Dublin's Teenage Stage 2017 and it was her very first experience abroad by herself.

She got to meet lovely new friends from Ireland and greatly enjoyed both rehearsals and free time.

The final show was just amazing and one cannot help wondering how those kids could prepare it in just one week.

It made us love Sweeney Todd, a musical that we had never properly appreciated."

Gianluca Di Lorenzo, Parent

“Aoife, Marion and I are so grateful for this unique opportunity you provided in putting together this programme and for the detail, attention and most importantly care you have shown Aoife throughout"  John McDonagh, Parent, Galway
